GENERAL TRAINING NOTES.

Fitness is crucial! Judo is obviously the best way of getting both fit & strong for Judo. However with your other commitments, all sessions are not always attended. Especially in this case but as a general rule, ALL non Judo training days should feature stamina/strength training. This could be swimming, skipping, running, cycling and weights etc in the gym. I'm not going into a training manual here. Keep in mind, Judo reqires, fast reactions, the ability to change pace/direction at speed and to keep on doing it! This should dominate how you train. Any distance work, running, swimming, cycling etc should feature hill sprints, "full speed" then slow, shuttles. Heart rates should be pushed up to around 180 bpm + (beats per minute) then down to 100ish then back up to max - up, down as much as you can stand. Something a round 30 mins of this should be aimed at. Another 30mins of more constant training should also be done. It is expected that there should be at least ONE HOUR of hard training every day (Sunday you can have a rest). More if you're really serious about future success at Judo.

PS there is no such thing as too much training for you lot...

Youtube training,

Taiotoshi

Throws general

click the links and watch carefully. Tai otoshi, O uchi and Uchi mata are all throws you know/we've looked at. Many of those in the 'throws general' you should also be aware of too.

Note, use of arms, legs and the persistance of the thrower! Try and copy the spirit, experiment with direction/contact areas, as the international performers do!

Email me any thoughts/questions email

Make sure you DON'T copy the habit of putting your (the thrown) arm out!

It'll get broken off!!!!!

Also be carefully copying the throws that land you (the thrower) on his head. Obviously bad policy, especially regarding neck injuries but also you'll get disqualified! If in doubt talk to me.

Bit of homework for you. You should at some point familiarise yourselves with the rules of Judo competition in their fullness. Download this little lot and look through it:  IJF's rules is only a .doc but is quite long!
