Gleeson Judo School's Club Information.

Gleeson Judo is now opening up sessions on Saturdays due to increased demand. Gleeson Judo is still a school based, curriculum focused organisation. Fundamentally aimed at helping to augment the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 & 2 (we have plans for developing provision for Key Stage 3 in our new Saturday slots. More information will be published soon) in Primary School PE. All Saturday sessions are link to the schools from which the students come from. Certificates, prizes & notices are all distributed at those "parent" schools.

We would also like to offer to our students attending regular sessions at schools during the week the opportunity to "drop in" at our Saturday sessions, with a pay on the door arrangement (six pounds). This can't be offered unless a school club is being attended. This is purely as an additional training opportunity, not a substitute for a commitment to a Gleeson Judo training programme based at a school associated with Gleeson Judo.

We hope that all information that is needed is on these pages following. If there is any thing that we haven't covered please don't hesitate to contact us by phone: 07810790039 or my email .

Entry
We try to make sure that once an application form and fee has been handed in that students gets a place in the school club. If however the club has reached its maximum numbers we will put the students name on a waiting list, ready for the first avliable space that comes up.

Fees should be paid in full at the beginning of each term (please remember Gleeson Judo runs on a three term a year basis). Cheques to "Gleeson Judo" or cash in an envelope with the student's name & school on it please. Internet banking is also a welcomed method of payment, please email us for our bank details etc.

Finishing Training with Gleeson Judo
As regards a student ending their training with Gleeson Judo, we expect the rented Judo suit (which remains the property of Gleeson Judo) to be returned, washed, to Gleeson Judo either through the school office or directly to the coach. Any 'coloured' belts can be kept, along with grading books and certificates, all of which is the property of the student! Fees will not usually be refunded if there are still sessions outstanding. Lost Judo suits or parts thereof will have to be payed for. See below, replacement kit.

Training session information.

THIS IS IMPORTANT! All students must have a judo suit. Girls need T-shirts under their judo jackets. Gleeson Judo can offer the rental or sale of a Judo suit. We recommend rental as with the growth of students suits can be easily exchanged with us for bigger ones. Gleeson Judo also provide high standard mats for training on. No jewellery should be worn. Shoes should always be worn while off the mat. While suits are being arranged P.E. kit can be worn temporally for the first session.

Grading - and advancing.

Gleeson grading books are issued when starting along with Judo suit, if required and should be kept safely as they are an important record of the student's progress! All information on advancing through the grades is put down in the book. However, on feedback from parents perhaps despite our best efforts we haven't spelt it out as clearly as we'd hoped. So to try to make sure its clear: there are three areas that will be tested; throws, groundwork, and terminology, when all three areas have been past the book is stamped and then the grade is given out. When a new coloured belt is required, there will be a letter home informing parents of the fee invloved (note this is only on change of coloured belt!). The student is then at their next grade.

NB. The areas tested might not be "signed off" in order, later/more advanced techniques can be looked at as being saved for later as it were. Its page seven of the Grading Book that tells what grades have been past and which are still to go. This is why the book is so important because without it we don't know where the student has progressed to. The other pages give us help getting throught the grades and tell us what needs to be covered but PAGE 7 is where it all finishes.

We hope that makes things absolutely clear, any further misunderstandings please email us by clicking this link.

Grading Books.

Are given free at the start of study with Gleeson Judo. However if they are lost then a replacement fee of £3.50 is payable. All information for gradings is in the book allbeit briefly (see above).

Replacement kit.

Belts are often lost. We can offer second hand replacment belts at £2 each (coloured ones). If trousers or jackets are lost, these will be chargable. Trousers are at present £10 each, jackets £15 and whole suits £25 (2010). Please look after the kit. We know its difficult with some of our younger students, please try, otherwise the rental system will break down. Thanks very much!

WASHING NOTE FROM GLEESON JUDO

Just a quick note to you about your child’s ‘new’ Judo suit.

Please when it comes time to wash it,

WASH IN WARM WATER ONLY  NEVER TUMBLE TRY IT!!  (otherwise it shrinks!!!).

It would be better to wash as a single item – for the sake of your washing machine-they're very heavy when wet- also avoiding the danger of the “pink” effect that haunts white clothes in the washing machine. Thanks a lot!

Testimonials

"I am taking this opportunity to ‘thank you’ for the wonderful judo club you provide the children at St Stephen’s.

The discipline and skills required for judo that the children learn from your club are easily transferable to the classroom environment which is wonderful and helps to re-enforce certain skills and disciplines that some children might find difficult to otherwise understand. I do know that the staff at school really appreciate your time, care rapport and attention to detail that you have developed with the children. This helps me enormously as PE Coordinator knowing that the children are in ‘ safe hands’.

I hope that we can continue to develop this relationship still further in years to come. May be we could generate a St Stephen’s Judo team and hold an inter schools judo competition?? Just an idea that we can think about during the summer!

Thank you again for all that you do for the children at St Stephen’s in our capacity as judo coach, it is truly appreciated."

PE Co Ordinator, St Stephen’s CE VA Primary, Bath.

"I want to thank you again for allowing A***'s brother H*** have a go on Saturday's judo camp. I hope he wasn’t too disruptive for you and the other guys. They both thoroughly enjoyed it and were both asleep as soon as I started the car!!"

For those of you who know me, with nothing better to do and have come this far....

I found this on the TeamBath website: http://www.teambath.com/2007/06/finn-gleeson/

This is a bit tongue in check for this website. The programme was shut down along with the position I had in early 2008 by TeamBath! Don't ask me why it's still on their site. I thought it was quite funny. Although we will have to get it taken off at some point. 14/10/10
